时至今日这一转变所带来的影响还不断的体现在学生的学习和生活之中。苏黎世大学给予学生最充分的权利，自由去选择自己感兴趣的领域开展研究。以王牌专业金融银行学为例，全部学下来要120ECTS（欧洲学分），每学分30学时，这里面就包括了8-10个小时的课时和20个小时左右的课下自学。其中共有57个学分，学生可以在一定程度上任意选课。这些课程包括由苏黎世大学金融银行专业提供的公司财政、银行学、金融经济学、计量金融等领域的61门课程，除此之外还可以在经济系内跨专业选择课程。甚至学生可以去隔壁的联邦理工学院任意选课（包括应用类课程）。虽然选课很自由，但是通过难度还是很大的。相比隔壁苏黎世联邦理工ETH恐怖的淘汰率（50%），UZH的平均挂科率则没有那么高，在60%左右。一般情况下如果在ETH读不下去的瑞士学生，则会考虑来苏黎世大学继续学业。
