昆士兰科技大学的前身是始建于1849年的布里斯班文科学院，学校在经历了百余年的变迁与合并后，于1989年更为现名。大学现有本科生近35,000人，研究生5,000人，国际学生6,000人，开设超过150多种学士与硕士课程。

昆士兰科技大学共有3个校区，主校区：Gardens Point，在校学生约21000人，位于布里斯班市中心，近布里斯班河畔，紧邻州议会大楼和布里斯班植物园，著名商学院、IT、工程学院位于此校区；Kelvin Grove：在校学生约11000人，位于布里斯班市中心以北3公里；另一个校区Caboolture：位于布里斯班市以北50公里。
